Effects of diphenylhydantoin on Liver tissue in experimental dogs
Lee Jae-Hyun

Abstract
The objective of this research is to investigate the effects of the Diphenylhydantion (Dilantin sodium) on liver tissue. Twelve young adult dogs of about 6 month. old with permanent dentition were used as experimental animals. Those animals were divided into four groups: Group I , Control group; Group II, Local irritation group; Group ]I, Dilantin administered plus local irritation, and Group N, Dilantin administered group. Dilantin was given orally with daily dosage of 7 mg per kilogram of the body weight. Those animals were sacrificed at intervals of 37, 44 and 50 days and fixed in 10% neutro-formalin solution. The tissue was prepare in serial section and staining process was made with Hematoxylin-eosin, Van-gieson, R. N. A and P. A. S. method. The results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. The histologic features of liver tissues showed little difference between the Control and the Local irritation group. 2. Both Dilantin administered group and Dilantin+Local irritation group showed inflammatory changes. Dilantin+Local irritation group showed more severe inflammatory change than that of Dilantin adiministered group. 3. Inflammatory changes occurred with inflammatory cell infiltration such as plasma cells, Lymphocytcs, macrophages, necrosis, hemorrhage and loss of lobular structure. 4. Generally, inflammatory severity was accerated with duration of experiment.
